Farmer First: Baket in Kyrgyzstan
When he came home excited about starting a chicken farm, Baket's wife thought he had lost his mind…
In Kyrgyz culture, you just don't raise chickens. Central Asian nomads are accustomed to moving often, raising sheep, goats, and cattle. Baket laughed as he recalled what his wife, Elmira, said when she realized he was serious: "She was embarrassed."
Baket wouldn't be deterred. He moved forward, intent on showing everyone just how helpful a chicken broiler business would be. Today, his business is thriving, his wife is thrilled, and their entire village has been lifted by the good his business is doing. Neighbors who once saw him as strange or a little 'off' now celebrate him, greeting him warmly in the village streets.
Baket is the exact kind of farmer we love celebrating and supporting with you, because he has vision.
He can see beyond his circumstances and he brings everyone with him. As he rises, so do they.
To all of you who give and give and give to make farmer's lives better: thank you. Your giving has an impact, and that impact is only just beginning! Stay tuned for more stories of transformation!
