Unlocking Potential in Turkey’s Hazelnut Heartland

Friends, we recently returned from a scouting trip to Turkey, and what we saw was exciting.

Over a million hazelnut trees brimming with potential for increased yields and efficiency.

We heard clear, actionable plans for creating jobs, supporting rural families, and boosting the regional economy—while also offering strong potential returns for investors. Add to that the social impact and regional networking opportunities, and you can see why we’re so energized.

The business leading this effort is called Full Harvest, and they know their stuff.

With more than a million trees and nearly 50% of the world’s global hazelnut supply, the Pontic Hills of Northern Turkey boast a rich agricultural history. Yet, like many historic ag regions, they face challenges—low output, inefficient methods, and limited access to modern practices. The region is ripe for innovation.

Full Harvest’s team has developed a model that can help a typical smallholder hazelnut orchard increase profit margins by up to 40% by year four—and mature orchards could see profits rise by 50–60%.

Key success factors include:

  • Strong and growing market demand

  • Unmet global need for hazelnuts

  • Built-in market access

  • Huge expansion potential (with over 25% of farms underperforming)

  • Deep local expertise and community trust

The region is home to 10,000 villages and some of Turkey’s most fertile agricultural land. Yet many families are economically displaced, splitting time between their rural homes and larger cities like Istanbul and Ankara to find work.

But what if they didn’t have to leave home?

What if better farming practices could help families thrive where they are?

That’s our vision—and we believe a partnership with Full Harvest can make it a reality.
