How you can quadruple a coffee farmer’s yield…

For a typical East African farmer, the difference between a barely-making-it harvest and a blow-your-mind harvest is simple: inputs.

Inputs are things you put in the ground to protect your crop and help it grow. In nations like Burundi and Kenya, access to inputs like high quality fertilizer and seed can be expensive and tough to find. This end of year, Long Miles Coffee and AgGrandize global are partnering to get coffee farmers the inputs they need to triple or even quadruple their yields.

Despite being the most popular drink on the planet after water, coffee purchasing and demand doesn’t always translate to more income for farmers. By donating toward a farmer’s inputs, you offer access to better seed, better beans, and better-tasting coffee—and a whole lot more of it for the farmer to sell!

$50 covers the cost of inputs for one farmer, and a matching grant of $15k is in place to make sure your donation will be doubled if you act fast.

Would you pledge to raise support for our coffee farming friends? Quadrupling a farmer’s yield will make a huge difference for a coffee farming family!

Long Miles is dedicated to making sure farmers get their dues while also producing a high quality coffee at an affordable rate.

It’s no easy balancing act. The coffee business is cutthroat and competitive, but Ben and Kristy founded Long Miles to be that in-between kind of coffee distributor that bridges the gap between the people who farm coffee and the people who drink it.

Long Miles Coffee is a recent C Fund ‘portfolio partner’, one of several strong businesses included in our impact investment portfolio, and we’ve spent time getting to know their coffee growers.

FAQs

  • Founded in 2011, Long Miles Coffee produces specialty coffee beans while prioritizing holistic impact for the 7200+ African families who farm them.

AgGrandize Global is a 501(c)3 nonprofit working to impact lives through agriculture by strengthening food supply chains in regions battling poverty and at risk of famine.

The two orgs are teaming up to support the people we both care most about: the farmers.

  • Inputs are anything a farmer puts into the ground to help their crops grow—things like fertilizer and seed. In places like East Africa, quality inputs can be the difference in a barely worthwhile harvest (low income) and an incredible one (high return).

Thanks to everyone helping these farmers and their communities rise together!

  • Donations go to a fund called Farmers for Farmers. Designed to help farmers (or people who care for them) support other farmers lacking access to critical resources, Farmers for Farmers is a sustainable way to maximize impact for the donor and maximize production for the farmer.

    How it works:

Donations raised through Farmers for Farmers will be redistributed to Long Miles Coffee’s on-the-ground distributors, who will purchase inputs and release them to farmers at the time of application on a no-interest line of credit. For the farm, this means cashless farming and increased production and earning potential. When the farmer brings their previous contracted production back to the point of harvest, the cost of the inputs is recaptured and recycled for future purposes, making initial donations have a continuous cycle of compounding impact for years to come.

The Farmers for Farmers program is designed to connect communities with resources and passion to farm communities battling poverty and food insecurity.

  • With enough funding and assuming planting and harvest cycles allow for it, we expect coffee farmers to benefit within just a few months!

Inputs are available in the region but not easily accessible for a typical E African farmer. Thank you for enabling this access, and stay tuned for stories of your impact.
