Farmer First: Margaret

We’re excited to yet again start the month (and new year!) with a Farmer First, this time celebrating Margaret!

Margaret Wachira is a Kenyan farmer and co-leads an agricultural business near Mt Kenya with her husband, Haron. To call Margaret’s farm ‘lush’ feels like an understatement. This Eden is so bursting with life, it’s hard to know which direction to look, there are too many crops!—coffee, bananas, tea, macadamia, and on and on.

The family also raises cows, geese, chickens, and other animals just across the dirt road from a tea field, the tea pickers joking and singing as they toss ripe leaves into the baskets on their backs.

Margaret’s business, Akili Foods, is a coffee distributor for our friends at Long Miles Coffee, and we’re fundraising for these coffee farmers in Kenya and Burundi to help them triple their coffee yields.

$50 covers the cost of vital inputs for a coffee farming family.
