Investing Prospects: New Opportunities in East Africa

"At AgGrandize, our Scout team finds excellent people to invest in, but we keep to a specific investment focus: using the C Fund to provide commodity loans.

That leaves many excellent opportunities out of our scope, but some of these businesses are just as strong as those we invest in. The following are five opportunities that we appreciated visiting, that we’re referring to other investors. We’re sharing them here to highlight the excellent work done by locals we know, not just those that fall within our portfolio."

—James Noronha, Director of Investments

1. City On a Hill Farm

Located on a 25 acre stretch of African farmland, the farmer is named Pat and was a former Compassion Kid now giving back to his community. The operation presents strong investment opportunity, particularly when paired with other demands and gaps in local supply chains and food markets discovered by our scouting team.

Requested funds: $40,000 for the 25 acres of land.

2. Goshen Farms

The team at Goshen Farms is requesting working capital to support their work with 5,000 farmers (most of them women) and plans to expand to over 10,000 farmers in the coming year. The company is the leading export of horticultural products out of Kenya and has set its aim on being the number one exporter out of Africa in next 10 years.

Requested funds: $400,000 in working capital

3. Nulands Limited

Joseph (centered in above picture) started Nulands Ltd using his background in real estate to develop, farm, and sell plots near the Great Rift Valley in Kenya. Located directly above plentiful water, the company is requesting funds to help drill two bore holes to irrigate crops, in particular the high demand chili peppers that are purchased by another high opportunity business, Mace Foods.

Requested funds: $70,000 to drill two bore holes

4. Mace Foods

Mace Foods specializes in spices and local Kenyan ingredients, working to befriend and buy from smallholder farms as they fulfill their mission of locally-led self-sufficient food chains. Margaret and her team have asked for marketing assistance.

Requested funds: $6,500

5. Taliana Foods

With an eye on the emerging gluten free market in East Africa, Taliana foods is requesting assistance marketing their product.

Requested funds: $265/mo
