Shadrach’s Story

When his father died to HIV-AIDS and his mother went missing, Shadrach’s story could have ended like so many other orphans in his area…

But one Kenyan couple in Shadrach’s community had a vision for better orphan care, and they founded The James 1:27 Project to make it happen. Initially providing famine relief and school tuition, The James Project keeps orphans in their home communities by pairing them with widow caretakers to keep them out of dead-end orphanages. Under this model, The James Project invited our agricultural mentors to help facilitate ag business that will lead to greater food security, income opportunities, and sustainable support for the most underserved neighbors.

Our friend Don Meeker and his church community have supported Shadrach’s community for years, and we’re thrilled to come alongside this work and support locals as they continue becoming the solution to local problems!

“I know how helpful The James Project was for me, and now that I’ve graduated I want to help others in my situation.” —Shadrach

Shadrach dreams of starting his own business and was excited to show us several business plans he had worked on. The hope in his face was so evident, and we drove away from his home excited about this young man’s future.

Thanks to all of you who’ve helped sustain this Kenyan community, and stay tuned for updates on the pilot ag business projects we’re developing!
