This Farmer First, we salute an aggie who saved many millions of lives and won the Nobel Peace Prize!
Born in 1914 in Iowa, Norman Borlaug was an American agronomist who developed high-yielding, disease-resistant wheat varieties that revolutionized agriculture.
He went on to use his knowledge of forestry and plant pathology to improve crop yields in Mexico, India, and Pakistan, where his efforts helped avert widespread famine in the 1960s and 1970s.
Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970, Borlaug's legacy continues to inspire and his work is credited with saving over a billion people from starvation.
